“The only things
Charlotte talks about are:

Curtain bangs;
her dog;
and *Stranger Things.”*

My daughter,
on her friend.

After a deep sigh, she expands:

“I say, '

Ugh

 it’s humid!'”
And she says: 'Curtain bangs!
They’d save you.'
"And then she goes:
'I mean, well. You’d have to put a *lot*
of work into them.
But then you’d *have* them!'"

My daughter rolls her eyes.

I then catch her in my periphery
as her fingers trace
the sides of her face
framing out potential fringe.

This is thirteen.
