In thirty eight years, when I am eighty
Who will celebrate with me?

Who will be in the room
Cheering me on, roasting me, toasting me, while
Reminiscing, reveling, reuniting and rekindling?

A second lifetime away from tonight
Who will I be
What will I have accomplished
Where will I have ventured?

I hope that room will be filled with
Loved ones
Laughter and
Ludicrous amounts of food.

I send my signals into the universe
I beckon longevity and vibrancy to
Linger in my bones
Frolic in my tendons
Ripple through my nerves
Anoint my brain with lucidity
So that I can be fully present
In my mind and in my body
On this brightly envisioned night so far from now.

Tonight, I sip a mug of hot slumber tea
And slurp magnesium powder
Reconstituted to a cloudy suspension in cool water,
And practice my nightly relaxing meditation
And stream spa music
And don my fuzzy bed socks.

These nightly rites I perform in a quest
To raise the odds that
I will be in that room
On the eightieth anniversary
Of my birth.

Lastly, I prepare my sleep mask
To shield my eyes from
Nocturnal light that could
Threaten my ambitions of rejuvenation.

To bold dreams;
Long may life carry me.
