- Description: “Reflect," a snapshot in time: wet concrete poured as foundation for a subterranean basement reflects the blue sky for a slim moment before dulling and fated for burial, written Wednesday, October 21, 2026 poem 294 of 365 poems written by Diana Ludwick in 2026. Staring three stories down into the depths of Maryland clay
I find I am not too late: in the pit, a pour of fresh concrete.
Tissue paper on ice, it gleams under afternoon rays, alive and rippling.
I look down yet see blue, clouds, tree branches, sun.
Though fated forevermore to be buried underground,
our to-be foundation in this moment nestles leaves, breathing.
Soaking up the skies, for this short window, our floors absorb the heavens.
Something so haunting, so vivid in such a juxtaposition.
Years from now, in the depths of winter,
when my bare feet chill on dull basement floor,
my soles will be kissed with the echoes of golden autumn sunlight,
ever crystalized in the catacombs of this constructed subterranean lair.
