Mani

While I may live in
cherry blossom alley,
the Tidal Basin
can keep the tourists.

Instead, my favorite
time in spring is just after,
when the evergreens
debut their spring lewks.

The Norway spruce
on the hill has clearly
gotten her nails done.

They catch my eye,
hard to miss.

From the comfort
of my kitchen
I am drawn outside
in search of a better view.

The tree is a
natural trendsetter.

Flashing and flaunting
her neon lime tips,
the latest in forest fashion.

Now right in front of me,
she waves gracefully
as if to offer me
a closer look.

Bright and beckoning,
keen and green.
This April mani
brings color theory to life.

I take in the spruce tips
for all their glory.

My woodland bestie
reminds me that we all need
a little self-care, Me time,
to refresh and renew.

Maybe at my next
nail appointment,
I should join her style.
I’ll seek my own set
of viridescent nails.

Poet, writer, photographer and slightly distracted day-dreamer who muses on (gestures at everything) from the petty to the profound. On a semi-serious, fully earnest search for meaning in the mayhem. Perimenopausal, melanin-deprived, irony-enhanced recovering perfectionist Type A+ millennial woman. She balances the ever-continuing quest to Know Better/Do Better, with the distinct ego-death of parenting a smart, full-throated child who was raised to know the power of her voice. Mothering a teen means catching a side-eye in almost every interaction. Diana navigates the minutiae of everyday life through seeking the magical in the mundane. Follow along and laugh with her as the world flames out!
