Luxury

“If you have the luxury of finding the sun….”
Dr. Chelsea begins, in Lotus pose.
Her call pierces through the thick bubble
of my distracted doom-scrolling trance.

Her centering beckon convinces me to
shut the news app and fully immerse in
the meditation that I’d begun, in truth, for
the vibes — enlightenment by osmosis.

I yield to her welcome to soul work
I find my seat, back tall, grounded feet.
Gazing through a wide winter window,
I align my torso towards the lemon orb.

Head-on I face due East
shoulders square, rounded down
eyes fall to my lap to protect my
pupils from the bold dawn.

She honors our collective pain
before laying the case for hope:
“If it is difficult to be
at peace in this moment…”.

The sun creeps up, scaling roofline,
emerging over forest canopy —
“Imagine peace is right there, so close.”
She pulls me from brain into body.

The celestial sphere casts heat and
illumination over this ice-swept land.
“Continue to breathe, continue to feel…
“May we never turn those feelings off.”

To feel, to have empathy; a lost practice.
Now, piping in over the wise instructor,
Beautiful Chorus sings out a mantra:
“I am safe here / I feel peace here.”

While the chant plays in the background
she manifests for unseen pupils:
“Breathe out through the crown;
“this peace will cover us today….”

I lift my face; warmth meets me.
Through closed lids the
bright morning permeates my skin
I sense the presence of a golden aura.

Dr. Jackson Roberts wrings me out:
“Exhale…Peace is here…at the center.”
“Open your eyes, brand new…”

My melted body is reset, rejuvenated.

Peace
Hope
Warmth
What a luxury.
