Oz

It's another
unhinged day
in Maryland —
this time it's tornadoes.

We've had a string of oddities:
Friday the 13th
Pi Day
Ides of March.
And now: Twister Day.

Because, honestly.
Why not? Add it on.
This has been a most
surreal year.
In an uncanny decade.
In a strange century.

So the kids were released
from school three hours early
— another not-full-day —
to escape the coming vortex.

I'm curious:
when this cyclone
hits our Oz,
who will prevail?

Will I be the airborne house?
Or the squished witch?
I don't look great in
black and white stripes;
too much contrast.

I feel I served my bad luck
penance yesterday,
so really, there's
no bandwidth
for drama today.

So come on, storm.
Try your best.
Marylanders are ready.
And I'm not tolerating
further disruptions.
You're dismissed.

Perimenopausal, melanin-deprived, irony-enhanced recovering perfectionist Type A+ millennial woman.
