Curtains
“Curtains,” a snapshot in time with a new teenager explaining a friend's penchant for fringe. Written Saturday, June 13, poem 164 in a series of 365 poems written by Diana Ludwick in 2026. Photo: "Fringe and Rope," By Diana Ludwick (c) 2026.
“The only things
Charlotte talks about are:
Curtain bangs;
her dog;
and Stranger Things.”
My daughter,
on her friend.
After a deep sigh, she expands:
“I say, '
it’s humid!'”
And she says: 'Curtain bangs!
They’d save you.'
"And then she goes:
'I mean, well. You’d have to put a lot
of work into them.
But then you’d have them!'"
My daughter rolls her eyes.
I then catch her in my periphery
as her fingers trace
the sides of her face
framing out potential fringe.
This is thirteen.
