Muse

“Muse,” written February 26, ode to my grandma's bust that gave her joy and direction, and the hopes that those powers will accompany me, too. Poem 057 in a series of 365 poems written by Diana Ludwick in 2026. Photo by Diana Ludwick (c) 2026.

Muse
A plaster bust of a young child ponders life. Image shot with rainbow holographic filter, with purples and red at top left, transitioning to yellows and greens at bottom right.

This pale bust
of a child thinker
accompanies me
in my office
they linger
over my shoulder
as I lead Zoom
and Team meetings
and take calls
craft and process prose
and edit deliverables.
This silent Muse
has been with me
since the early aughts
when I inherited
the statue from my
maternal grandma.
She loved this piece
she had it in her library
she had often said
it gave her clarity
strength and joy
so I keep this child
with me, near me
in hopes that
I too can feel
inspiration from my
inherited and insightful
creative companion.
