Name Yellow
“Name Yellow,” written Sunday, May 24, poem 144 in a series of 365 poems written by Diana Ludwick in 2026. "Name Yellow," a strange tropical fruit, Photo by Diana Ludwick (c) 2026.
"Name Yellow,"
"Four Ninety-nine per pound,"
the label says.
The one clamped to a box
filled with green aloe.
Next to it,
for one seventy-nine a pound
brown yuca root.
Behind it, countless bunches
of yellow bananas
eighty-nine cents a pound.
So what, one wonders, is "Name Yellow?"
Is it here in front of me?
Where does it grow?
What does it pair with?
How does one eat it?
Who can help me understand?
Name Yellow.
A code for an ominous war?
Despite glaring fluorescents overhead
I am left in the dark.
