Verbal

"Verbal,”an agonizing discovery that a voice note dictated, poetry in motion, while driving did not result in a captured poem, written Monday, October 19, 2026 poem 292 in a series of 365 poems written by Diana Ludwick in 2026. Photo: "Full Brain, Empty Voice Note," by Diana Ludwick © 2026.

Empty voice note with title "Verbal"

One hundred words
I spoke
aloud
in the car
to a voice note
that I'd specifically
activated:
“Hey Siri, capture a verbal note”

I then pour my thoughts
from my mind
through my lips
to the cabin of my car
to my unseen copilot.

From red light
to right turn
to residential
I speak clearly,
steady;
crystalized honey pace,
I
en-nun-see-ate.

And then I park my car
Kill the engine with a button
Collect my work apparatuses
Collapse on my sitting room settee.

I open my notes app
to find that
my "one hundred words"
Spoah-Ken a-loud
were captured as
an Apple note,
Bold title:
“Verbal”
Body:

[empty]

So then
this poem
is about the poem
I dictated into existence
that you’ll never read

Because
Smart technology
interpreted me
lit-er-al-ly
and now
I have
no words
to show for it.
